NPI Assembly Engineer
About the job
As an NPI Assembly Engineer, you will play a central role in bringing new semiconductor products from concept to manufacturable reality. You will lead the full assembly readiness process, ensuring packaging technologies, materials, and manufacturing flows are validated, documented, and ready for seamless transition into volume production. Working closely with OSAT partners, you will define process requirements, qualify assembly flows, and guide prototype builds while resolving technical challenges related to yield, materials, reliability, and DFM considerations.
Your expertise will drive robust problem‑solving, data‑driven decision‑making, and continuous improvement across the NPI lifecycle. You will own critical manufacturing documentation—such as BOM/AVL updates, build instructions, specifications, and change management—to secure consistent execution throughout the supply chain. In this highly collaborative role, you act as a key interface between engineering, operations, and supply chain teams, translating complex product needs into manufacturable, high‑quality solutions.
This position suits someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, communicates clearly across global stakeholders, and brings a structured, proactive approach to managing multiple technical workstreams. With strong ownership, curiosity, and a commitment to excellence, you will help deliver successful new product introductions that strengthen our supply chain and support the growth of our semiconductor portfolio.
Key responsibilities
Lead the end‑to‑end assembly readiness for new products, ensuring packaging, materials, and manufacturing processes are fully validated and ready for smooth transition into volume production.
Collaborate closely with OSAT partners (assembly/test subcontractors) to define process requirements, qualify assembly flows, and resolve technical issues during prototype builds and ramp‑up.
Drive technical problem‑solving on assembly‑related issues, including yield challenges, material compatibility, DFM reviews, and reliability risks, ensuring timely root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
Own documentation and process definition—including build instructions, BOM/AVL readiness, assembly specifications, and change management—to ensure consistent execution across the supply chain.
Act as the key interface between engineering, operations, and supply chain teams, translating product requirements into manufacturable solutions while ensuring schedule adherence, product quality, and supplier alignment throughout the NPI lifecycle.
Key Qualifications
Deep technical expertise in semiconductor assembly technologies, including package architectures, material systems, thermo‑mechanical behavior, and DFM/DFX principles relevant to OSAT manufacturing environments.
Hands‑on experience with NPI and assembly process qualification, including prototype build support, process validation, yield analysis, failure investigation, and reliability testing.
Strong capability in supplier and OSAT technical engagement, covering process requirement definition, capability reviews, factory readiness assessments, and technical issue resolution.
Proficiency in manufacturing documentation and readiness, including BOM/AVL preparation, assembly specifications, build instructions, ECN management, and release of manufacturing flows.
Advanced analytical skills with engineering data, including interpretation of FA results, SPC trends, DOE outcomes, and reliability data to drive conclusions and improvements.
Personal Skills
The ideal candidate brings a proactive, solution‑driven mindset and thrives in a fast‑paced environment where new products and requirements evolve quickly. You communicate clearly and confidently across cultures and time zones, ensuring seamless collaboration with suppliers, OSAT partners, and internal engineering teams. With strong organizational skills and a structured approach, you manage multiple workstreams simultaneously while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. You’re comfortable taking ownership, navigating ambiguity, and driving issues to resolution with persistence and professionalism. Above all, you combine curiosity with a continuous‑improvement mindset—always seeking better ways to optimize processes, strengthen product quality, and support successful new product introductions.

About Nordic Semiconductor
Nordic Semiconductor is a Norwegian fabless semiconductor company specializing in wireless communication technology that powers the Internet of Things (IoT). Nordic was established in 1983 and has about 1400 employees across the globe. Our award-winning Bluetooth Low Energy solutions pioneered ultra-low power wireless, making us the global market leader. Our technology range was later supplemented by ANT+, Thread and Zigbee, and in 2018 we launched our low power, compact LTE-M/NB-IoT cellular IoT solutions to extend the penetration of the IoT. The Nordic portfolio was further complemented by Wi-Fi technology in 2021.
