Embedded Software Engineer
About the job
We are seeking a highly skilled Embedded Software Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a background in testing low-level embedded systems and a passion for ensuring product reliability and quality.
In this role, you will design and implement software drivers for new silicon, and ensure robust performance through thorough debugging and cross‑platform testing. This role involves working closely with hardware and firmware teams to both develop new embedded software and validate its functionality, performance, and robustness. You will have the opportunity to work with wireless technologies, ranging from sub-1 GHz to LTE/5G, GNSS, and NTN.
The position requires deep embedded‑systems expertise, strong C programming skills, hands‑on experience with testing and CI tools, familiarity with wireless protocols and hardware debugging, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast‑moving engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to SDKs (e.g., Zephyr‑based nRF Connect SDK) by designing and implementing board support packages, drivers, and tests for new and existing devices
Analyze, debug, and resolve issues uncovered during development and testing cycles across multiple hardware platforms
Improve and extend automated test systems (CI), including daily test execution and reliability validation
Work with design and verification teams to align software behavior with silicon architecture and modem specifications
Partner with firmware teams to develop consistent low‑level APIs and ensure compatibility across SoCs, reference boards, and eval kits
Set up and refine build systems and CI pipelines following organizational best practices
Document APIs, architecture decisions, and test results with clarity and consistency for internal and external developers
Key Qualifications
Deep knowledge of embedded systems, microcontrollers, and real-time systems.
Proficiency in C for embedded environments and scripting languages (Python preferred) for automation.
Experience with unit/system-level testing and continuous integration tools such as Jenkins and GitHub Actions.
Good understanding of test coverage analysis and static analysis tools.
Experience with wireless protocols is preferred.
Experience with hardware debugging tools and protocol sniffers.
Personal skills
We are looking for someone who brings strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, paired with a natural curiosity and learning mindset that drives continuous growth. You approach challenges with analytical thinking and strong problem‑solving abilities, and you thrive in fast‑moving settings that require adaptability and comfort in dynamic environments. You take ownership of your work with a self‑driven, responsible, and detail-oriented approach, and you stay motivated through complexity with the resilience, persistence, and willingness to tackle hard problems needed to succeed in this role.

About Nordic Semiconductor
Nordic Semiconductor is a Norwegian fabless semiconductor company specializing in wireless communication technology that powers the Internet of Things (IoT). Nordic was established in 1983 and has about 1400 employees across the globe. Our award-winning Bluetooth Low Energy solutions pioneered ultra-low power wireless, making us the global market leader. Our technology range was later supplemented by ANT+, Thread and Zigbee, and in 2018 we launched our low power, compact LTE-M/NB-IoT cellular IoT solutions to extend the penetration of the IoT. The Nordic portfolio was further complemented by Wi-Fi technology in 2021.
